Alessio Di Mauro was born in Siracusa, Italy and is still living there, when he’s not on the Tour. He is a lefthander and mainly a baseline player, who has become more aggressive during the last years. Alessio improved his serve and his net game. His best weapon is his physical condition: most of the players give it up after the second hour of chasing the ball. Alessio’s favourite surface is clay and his favourite shot is the backhand. Alessio started to play tennis when he was six years old, together with his older brothers Germano and Fabio. He is a big fan of the Juventus soccer team and he likes to read thriller books.
Professional since 1996, Alessio's career was the typical career of the committed card working professional: He slowly but continously improved his game and his ranking through the years. In 2004 he started winning Challenger events: he won Mantova, Italy 2004, Monza, Italy, 2005, and reached the finals at the 100.000$ tournament of Napoli, where he lost to Potito Starace.
Alessio spent most of 2006 competing in tour events, reaching a.o. the third round at the TMS of Montecarlo, finishing inside the top 100 for the second consecutive year. This year he has experienced a magnificient start of the clay season, reaching his first final in a tour event in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His best ATP ranking until now was no.68. |
