Hi Mr.Dahlbo: My daughter is 9, who plays tennis for 6 mo now. How would I know whether she has a potential to play serious tennis. It takes a lot of resources to continue. She is a beginner but aspire to be professional (I think she watched movie Wimbledon), but it is stressful for parents.
Is there a sort of test? |

Håkan Dahlbo |
Hi Eugine!
Just give her the chance to play with other children and see if the "fire" is burning, if she is concentrated and if she never gives up. If you think she fullfill these talents then go to a good coach and see if she can store information and if she wants to learn new things. Does she learn easy or does it take a long time?
Don´t pay to much money in the beginning and let her decide. To be a professional takes a lot of spirit and a long time. Have fun and enjoy the game and your daughter.
Regards and good luck HD |

How do top european junior players continue their education while playing so many ITF tournaments? |
|
| |
Håkan Dahlbo |
Hi Thomas!
A lot of the best junior players are in special schools with special programmes and specialized teachers. They have task to follow during the tournaments and can make the test when they come back home. The absolut best players stop school at the age of 16 because they travel every week. It is then nearly impossible to be a good stundent as well. Some can do it but most of them not.

Hi Coach,
Could you Please take the time to tell me why the term Top Seed is used. I thought when I am watching tennis they were saying Top Seat?? I have e mailed ESPN, our local San Francisco Sports reporter, I have checked Google. No one will help me figure this out!
Many Thanks!
Curious,

Hi Marlow!
The word TOP is used because two players are placed at the end of the draw (up and down) and they are the best two players. SEED means that you are "seeded" which means that you don´t have to play the best players in the first round. I think it is an expression that is similar to "place out".
Hope I could help you,
best regards HD |
