2012     

Marcel reached a career-high ranking in singles of 19 in July 2012

He reached the fourth round of Roland Garros, losing to Ferrer

He played the final of Umag, Croatia, losing to Cilic

In doubles Marcel won the ATP World Tour finals together with his partner Marc Lopez

Together, they won the doubles title at the Italian Open in Rome defeating Kubot and Tipsarevic 6-3 6-2

They played the final of the ATP500 tournament of Acapulco, Mexico, losing to another Spanish couple Marrero/Verdasco.
 
They reached the final at the Open de Godo in Barcelona, the semi-final of the TMS of Monte Carlo and the finals in Umag.

Marcel and Marc also won in Marc won Gstaad, beating Farah/Giraldo and reached the finals of the Masters of Toronto, losing to the Brian Brothers, and the final in Umag, Croatia, losing to Marrero/Verdasco

Marcel and Marc reached the semi-final of the US Open, losing to Paes/Stepanek


2011     

Marcel won the ATP 250 tournament of Gstaad, defeating Verdasco in three sets: 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

He won the ATP 500 of Valencia, defeating Monaco: 6-2, 4-6, 7-6

Marcel reached the fourth round of the Masters of Miami, losing to Ferrer

In doubles he won Auckland, New Zealand with Tommy Robredo.

With Marc Lopez he played the final of Zagreb, Croatia and the final of Stuttgart, Germany.

 

in 2010 he reached his first ATP 500 final in Valencia, Spain, beating former top 10 Gilles simon in the semifinals.

Marcel reached a career-high ranking in singles at no. 41 and of doubles at no. 5. 

With Pablo Cuevas Marcel won the ATP Tour doubles event of Costa Do Sauipe, Brazil where they defeated Kubot/ Marach: 7-5, 6-4. Together they also reached the final of Estoril.

Partnering Tommy Robredo he reached the doubles semifinal at the US Open; with Cuevas he also reached the final of Estoril

With Santiago Ventura Marcel won Chennai, India

Marcel reached the semi final of the Master Series of Madrid, together with Viktor Troicki, loosing to the Bryan brothers

In 2009 Marcel reached a ranking of 44 in singles

He reached the semi final of the ATP Tour event of Chennai, India where he lost to Marin Cilic

He reached the final of the Khanty-Mansiysk Challenger in Russia, where he also won the doubles tournament with his brother Gerard, defeating the Russians Kirilov/ Kutnetsov

In doubles Marcel reached the final of the Master Series of Paris with Tommy Robredo, with whom he also reached the final of the ATP Tour event of Valencia

In doubles Marcel won the ATP Tour events of: Moscow, Buenos Aires and Costa Do Sauipe, Brazil    

In 2008 Marcel won his first ATP title in Houston where he defeated No. 8 Blake in a three set final

He was member of the winning Spanish Davis Cup team which defeated Argentina with 3-1

He won the Challenger title in Tanger, Morocco where he defeated Gimeno-Traver

In 2007 Marcel enjoyed an excellent season on the Challenger circuit, reaching three finals in Montevideo, Belo Horizonte and Bucharest-2

In doubles he won nine Challenger titles –including five with Ventura-

He reached his first ATP quarter final in Valencia

In 2006 Marcel captured his first Challenger title in Barcelona where he defeated Oscar Hernandez


Personal

His full name is Marcel Granollers Pujol. He began playing at the age of five. His father Javier is a commercial director and his mother Montse is a teacher. He also has a younger brother Gerard (21) who reached a career-high ranking of No. 392 in October 2010. Marcel speaks Spanish and English. He enjoys football and supports R.C.D. Espanyol. He considers clay his favorite surface.
